About Eric

I am a photographer, engineer, inventor, and ponderer living in Sonoma, California. Photography has been my creative anchor for nearly forty-five years (more about my distant past here).

My photography is motivated by an inner desire for respite — for finding evidence that moments of peacefulness exist, even amidst the unending chaos of life. My work ranges from conventional, photorealistic images, to abstract and impressionist images that invite you to bring your own interpretation.

I make photographs using both film and digital cameras, and I personally print my own work with quality pigment inks and archival papers. I strive to create meticulously crafted and presented prints — artifacts worthy of lifelong display and appreciation.

I am especially curious about time — how subjects change over time; how “still” photographs, despite being still, represent a passage of time (however short); and how time is often the key ingredient to revealing a consequential moment.

At a more abstract level, I am fascinated with time’s role in memories. For me, memories are not like still images, frozen in time. Nor are they full motion pictures. In my mind’s eye, memories occupy a liminal space — they are “still,” yet they vibrate with energy, motion, and emotion. That is what I pursue with my abstract and impressionist photography.
